Navratri Skandamata Puja
The Navratri Skandamata Puja is a sacred Vedic ceremony performed on the fifth day of Navratri to invoke the motherly grace of the fifth manifestation of Goddess Durga. According to ancient scriptures, when the demon Tarakasura wreaked havoc across the universe, God ordained that only the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati could defeat him. Goddess Parvati underwent intense penance and took the form of Skandamata to nurture Lord Kartikeya, who ultimately restored balance to the cosmos.
During this powerful ritual, Vedic priests invoke Maa Skandamata alongside Lord Skanda using authentic rituals. The puja begins with Ganesh Pujan, Navgraha Avahan, and Kalash Sthapana, followed by the recitations of Durga Saptashati, Skandamata Stotram, and Kavach Path. Special offerings of bananas (her most favored fruit), yellow flowers, chana, and unrefined sugar (gur) are presented to the Goddess.
Performing this puja on Panchami Tithi purifies the entire household environment, dispels long-standing negativity, restores psychological stability, and invokes powerful divine shielding over every family member.
