Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was primarily a teacher and a philosopher. During his lifetime, he held the following key professional roles:

He taught philosophy at the University of Mysore, the University of Calcutta, and the University of Oxford in Britain. He served as the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University and Banaras Hindu University. From 1949 to 1952, he served as India's Ambassador to the Soviet Union (USSR). Politician:

He was born on September 5, 1888, in Tiruttani (Tamil Nadu), into an extremely poor yet devout Telugu Brahmin family. He obtained an M.A. degree in Philosophy from Madras Christian College; his master's thesis was titled "The Ethics of the Vedanta and Its Metaphysical Presuppositions." He served as a professor of philosophy at Madras Presidency College, the University of Mysore, and the University of Calcutta. From 1936 to 1952, he held the position of Professor of Eastern Religions and Ethics at the University of Oxford. He introduced the Western world to Indian Vedanta philosophy and demonstrated that Indian philosophy was in no way inferior to Western thought. In 1949, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru appointed him as India's ambassador to the Soviet Union, where he established strong strategic ties with Joseph Stalin. As India's first Vice President, he served as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha for ten years. He became the second President of India, serving from 1962 to 1967; his tenure saw the 1962 Sino-Indian War and the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War. He was among the first individuals to be honored with India's highest civilian award in 1954. When he became President, his students expressed a desire to celebrate his birthday; he suggested, "Instead of celebrating my birthday separately, let it be observed as 'Teachers' Day' in honor of all the teachers in the country." In 1975, he was awarded the Templeton Prize for his outstanding contribution to the field of religion, and he donated the entire prize money to the University of Oxford.

Badge and Access Policy: Official event badges issued at registration must be worn visibly at all times throughout the venue premises to access scientific halls, exhibition areas, and workshop zones.
