More About Shrinathji Temple

The Shrinathji Temple in Nathdwara, Rajasthan, is rooted in the legend of Lord Krishna lifting Govardhan Hill. When the villagers of Vrindavan prepared offerings for Indra, the rain god, Krishna urged them to worship Govardhan Hill, which directly sustained their livelihood. Angered, Indra unleashed a fierce storm upon the village. To protect his devotees, the young Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill with his little finger, sheltering the villagers and their cattle for seven days. Humbled by Krishna's divine power, Indra ceased the storm, acknowledging Krishna’s supremacy. This act symbolizes Krishna's role as a protector and divine guardian.
