More About Somnath Jyotirlinga?

The mythology of Somnath Temple is tied to the story of the Moon (Som) and the 27 daughters of Daksha Prajapati. Moon, who was married to all 27 daughters, showed special affection for his wife, Rohini, causing the other 26 wives to feel neglected. They complained to their father, Daksha, who, saddened by their plight, cursed Moon to gradually lose his brilliance. To atone for this curse, Moon went to the Prabhas coast in Gujarat, established a Shivalinga, and performed severe penance for Lord Shiva. Pleased with his devotion, Shiva appeared and freed Moon from the curse, granting him immortality. Lord Shiva also blessed Moon to wax and wane every 15 days, and from that day, Shiva came to be known as "Somnath," meaning "Lord of the Moon." The Shivling Moon had established was then worshiped as Somnath Jyotirlinga, marking the temple's sacred significance.
