Kagbeni: The Ancient Gateway to Upper Mustang
Situated at around 2,800 meters above sea level, Kagbeni is one of the oldest villages in the Mustang region of Nepal. It lies at the confluence of the Jhong River and Kali Gandaki River, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Kagbeni is often visited by trekkers en route to Muktinath or heading towards the restricted Upper Mustang. The village features traditional mud-brick houses, narrow alleys, and panoramic views of the Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri ranges. Its highlight is the 15th-century Kag Chode Thupten Samphel Ling Monastery, an important religious center in the region. Kagbeni also marks the border checkpoint for those trekking into Upper Mustang.
