More About Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga

The story of the Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga, rooted in the Ramayana, centers on Lord Rama’s devotion to Lord Shiva. When Ravana kidnaps Sita, Rama journeys to Rameshwaram to seek Shiva’s blessings before battling Ravana. Unable to wait for Hanuman's return with a Shiva Lingam, Rama creates one from sand, known as the Ramalingam. Hanuman later brings another Lingam, the Vishwalingam, which is installed beside the Ramalingam. The temple stands as a symbol of Lord Rama’s faith, where Shiva blesses him for victory over Ravana. The Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga represents the unity of Lord Vishnu (Rama) and Lord Shiva, emphasizing devotion, divine grace, and the triumph of good over evil. The temple continues to draw pilgrims who seek blessings and purification through its sacred rituals and theerthams.
