More About Rameshwaram Dham

Rameshwaram, a sacred pilgrimage site in Tamil Nadu, is deeply rooted in the Ramayana. Lord Rama, in his quest to rescue his wife Sita from the demon king Ravana, reached the southern tip of India where he built the legendary Rama Setu (bridge) with the help of Vanara warriors. To atone for the sin of killing Ravana, a learned Brahmin, Rama sought Lord Shiva’s blessings and decided to install a Shiva Lingam at this site. As Hanuman went to fetch the lingam, Sita molded a sand lingam in the meantime. Upon Hanuman’s return, Rama also installed the lingam Hanuman brought, known as Vishwalingam, alongside the Ramalingam. This act of devotion led to Rameshwaram becoming a revered holy site. Over time, it became one of the Char Dhams, symbolizing Lord Shiva's power and Lord Rama’s reverence. The temple, with its sacred tirthas and remarkable Dravidian architecture, continues to attract millions of pilgrims, offering a spiritual journey to cleanse the soul and attain moksha.
