Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga, located in Ellora, Maharashtra, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The story begins with Sati, the daughter of King Daksha, who marries Shiva despite her father's opposition. After Daksha insults Shiva at a yagna, Sati sacrifices herself in grief, leading to Shiva’s devastation. Her spirit is reborn as Parvati, who wins Shiva’s love through penance, symbolizing the divine union.
Another key figure, Ghrihasamata, a devoted woman, prayed to Shiva to cure her sick husband. Moved by her devotion, Shiva manifested as the Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga, healing her husband. Legend also says Shiva transformed into a bull to escape a demon king, and the portion of his body became the Jyotirlinga. The temple honors Shiva’s divine grace and the deep devotion of his devotees.
