Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga, also known as Amareshwar, is one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Maheshwar on the banks of the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh, India. It holds immense spiritual significance and is a vital destination for Shiva devotees.

Mythological Story One popular legend tells of Ravana, the demon king, who sought to bring Lord Shiva's Mount Kailash to Lanka. After impressing Shiva with his devotion, Ravana received the Atma-Linga, with the condition that he must not place it on the ground. However, Lord Vishnu tricked Ravana, and the Linga was set down at the Narmada River. Ravana tried to lift it but only managed to break it into pieces, one of which is believed to be the Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga.

Another legend speaks of a battle between the gods and demons, where Shiva manifested himself as the Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga to help the gods defeat the demons and restore cosmic balance.
