More About Tara Tarani Shaktipeeth?

The legend traces its origin to the celestial event of Daksha Yajna. Daksha Prajapati, Sati's father, organized a grand sacrifice, but deliberately excluded his daughter and her consort, Lord Shiva. Humiliated and heartbroken, Sati immolated herself in the sacrificial fire.

Upon hearing the news of Sati's tragic demise, Lord Shiva, in a fit of rage, performed the Tandava, the cosmic dance of destruction. To quell his fury and prevent the annihilation of the universe, Lord Vishnu intervened. With his Sudarshan Chakra, he severed Sati's body into numerous parts, which scattered across the Indian subcontinent.

It is believed that Sati's breasts fell at the site of the present-day Tara Tarini temple. The temple complex houses two shrines dedicated to the twin goddesses, Tara and Tarini, who are revered as manifestations of Adi Shakti.
